Ep 207: Modern Family, Twilight Zone
Join my campaign to put the monkey back into Boxcutters. Send your monkey-related items now! Monkeys in barrels, plush monkey toys. Draw a picture of a monkey and send it in! If you don't want to you snail-mail, you could send download monkey porn from your favourite adult sites and send the jpegs to hooray_for_monkeys[{a.t}]boxcutters.net
Let's bury Josh under an avalanche of monkey merchandise until he learns to respect the monkey. After all, the Boxcutters would not be where they are now without monkeys. Market research indicates that 95% of the audience started listening because they wanted to hear monkeys mentioned. These statistics are known to be accurate, because a chicken certified them.

In this future gone mad, Josh will no longer spank the monkey, the monkey will spank Josh!
Also Heroes in Adelaide was on Wed Night, it annoyed me because I had all the shows I wanted to watch on Wed night. I was extremely happy to hear they are showing it close to the US time, and I think it will be extremely interesting to see if there is a spike in the ratings. I hope so, because if it does maybe other shows will follow suit.
Anyone see Mick Molloy interviewing Hilltop Hoods on Wednesday night? I swear it sounded like he was 60 years old, interviewing the "hip and groovy bands that the kids like to jive to these days...". And then he rapped with them. "I'm a little teapot..." Never has Mick looked quite so lame.
Meanwhile, John Howard on YouTube. You know what this means: if he gets kicked out of office, his fans can send the government loads and loads of nuts until they reinstate him!
Huzzah,
Chad
Molloy was SO fricken embarrassing. What a complete tool. I think it's about time they brought the screen out on the set and shot him right there - put him out of his pain. And seriously, has no one told him that they Good Guys just are not funny? Not so much whipping a dead horse as trying to carve and reheat a semi-solidified pile of turd.
The viewer campaigns need to be in context with the thing they're trying to save so I think that means bags full of assholes for the entire Australian electorate...
There's a couple of mental images for you to take on your way.
Re GAT: whilst I like the whole premise of Heroes and its comic book sensibility, I don't think it belongs.
Lost should definitely be in there, and whilst it has certainly maintained an ongoing story very well, I actually consider Twin Peaks to be the originator of that (all weirdness aside). It was pressure from the audience - an audience that couldn't cope or wasn't ready for the concept of the very extended storyline (and all the weirdness) - and, subsequently, the network that brought about its demise.
Every time I see The Nation I question whether I'm misremembering my enjoyment of Mick Molloy on The Late Show, but your "second banana" assessment of him has put that to rest. He is just so appalling on his own, and I think he's almost become the uber-bloke in the intervening years... or maybe he hasn't changed one iota and we have?
With Twin Peaks Lynch never wanted to solve the mystery of who killed Laura Palmer and just have it as a background issue, forever burning away. But ultimately he had little choice and that was the beginning of the end.
Completely agree about Molloy - how could it have changed so dramatically? We loved him so much.
